Latest Update:  PREP COVID-19 Startup Plan

The goal of PREP is to assist parents in the religious education of children attending public schools in Kindergarten to Grade 7  and to prepare them to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist in Grade 2 and Confirmation in Grade 7.

PREP used to  be known as CCD (Catechism Confraternity of Christian Doctrine  or simply as "Catechism," and provides religious education to Catholic children attending non-Catholic  schools.

Classes are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 7:45 PM for children in Grades 1 – 7. We host classes at Cloverdale Catholic School from mid-September to mid-May.

To register your children to the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP), download the following form, fill in the details then submit to the Parish office during business hours or email a scanned copy to [email protected].

Precious Blood Parish Religious Education Program 2020-2021

WELCOME BACK to our P.R.E.P. faith program for the children of Precious Blood Parish. We on the faith teaching team for this program, are very excited to welcome the children back to the classroom after the long break due to the Covid-19 gathering restrictions. We cannot wait to share our love of Jesus with the children and create a fun and constructive environment to teach and help on their faith journey.

There is a lot of information that I would like to convey regarding the P.R.E.P. program and its implementation this year, in this unusual learning environment. We are concerned about the health and safety of your children, my teaching staff and all our families.

I would like to start by saying that information on the program will be available on the PARISH BULLETIN and on the parish WEBSITE UNDER PREP. As of September 5, 2020. I will also be issued a NEW EMAIL address very soon as I have had my email compromised and I will be getting that out to you in the next week and again that will be available on the parish website under PREP after September 5, 2020.

I would like to tell you about the Parents information night and registration in regards to the program and the Covid safety protocol procedures that will take place in 2 separate meeting to answer any questions you might have in regards to your child’s PREP class. As we can NOT gather on groups over 50, we will meetings in the PARISH CENTRE BEFORE the program begins. As we will have the meeting based on grade, you DO NOT have to come to 2 meetings if you have children in different grade meetings on different night as it will be the same content. Unfortunately, due to safety health protocols, you CANNOT come to a meeting on a night your child is not in that grade as we will be making sure only 50 attendPlease NO students attend and please only 1 PARENT attend, thank you very much.

*The information night and Registration night for parents of children going into PREP GRADES 1-2-3-4 will be at 6:15pm at the Parish Centre Gym on WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 2020

*The information and Registration for PREP STUDENTS IN GRADES 5-6-6-7 will be at 6:15PM at the Parish Centre Gym on MONDAY SEPTEMBER 14.

P.R.E.P. PROGRAM 2020-2021

There will be a calendar with the dates for the entire program available at the information nights for each family to take home. PLEASE keep this calendar as it will be a bit confusing at first, but it will be very effective to keep everything straight for the PREP class rotation.

The P.R.E.P. classes will START on Wednesday September 16, 2020 with an ALTERNATE ROTATION SCHEDULE. This is to keep the number of students in the school lower on PREP nights. As our classes are at night and half of the year it will be dark when the students enter and exit, it is very important that we maintain as much social distance as possible and a few students in the building as possible at one time. We always need to ensure the students safety.

The CLASS schedule will start on** SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 at 6:30pm for GRADES 1-2-3-4 ONLY. The next week on **SEPTEMBER 23,2020 AT 6:30pm for GRADES 5-6-6-7.

This is how the program will work. The classes will alternate weeks that they attend IN CLASS INSTUCTION in a formalized rotation. The week that your child is NOT in class, all the teachers will be sending home the class assignments on GOOGLE classroom for your child to do at home with you the parents. This way the children will be in a structured program that will be done in 50/50 class and home participation.

There will be new requirements that we will discuss at the meeting. One of the new items is that we will no longer be able to touch any items in the classroom at Cloverdale Catholic school. The children will need to stay in their classroom during the duration of the class time as well. Therefore, ALL PARISH PREP FAMILIES WILL NEED TO SEND A CRAFT SUPPPLY BAG TO CLASS EACH TIME, their child attends in class along with their PREP book. PLEASE send the following in a labelled ZIP lock bag or Pencil case for your child as we cannot use any items that are passed between children, they must use their own items.

In a bag please send:

Small pack or crayons

Small pack of markers-or just 5 different colours if fine

Water bottle (The water fountains will not be in use)

The children ARE required to wear masks upon entering the building, moving through the hallways, going to the restroom, and exiting the building. They DO NOT have to wear the masks one they are in their class at their individual desks. If you want your child to wear their mask for the entire class time duration, of course they are certainly welcome to do so.

As I am sure you are all aware this is a fluid situation and I have tried to take all safety protocols into consideration when planning the PREP program. We want to share our faith and the message of hope in our Saviour Jesus Christ in a warm, safe, and friendly classroom environment for the children. WE ALL HOPE that a vaccine is found very soon and that we will conquer the Covid virus together by social distancing and safety measures so that we can again be a more friendly place to cultivate the faith as a community.

There are other topics that will be covered and that will be the GRADE 2 FIRST COMMUNION PROGRAM AND THE GRADE 7 CONFIRMATION PROGRAM. If you have children in these grades, please stay after the information part of the meeting as there will be a 10-minute meeting on these beautiful sacraments that those children are preparing for this year.

I know this is a lot of information to take in. THANK YOU so much for the humble privilege of letting us share and teach the faith to your children. We all are one body gathered in his name and it is such a joy to share the faith with our parish children.

Please know that if you care UNCOMFORTABLE sending your child to in class instruction this year, you can still register for the PREP program, but you can also choose to homeschool the program. Please contact me directly if you would like to do so and this can be arranged. Please come to the information night for your child’s grade and register your child and please write HOMESCHOOL program required. I will be back to you within the week to create a program for you

There will be registration packages on the table at the back of the gym when you come in. Please bring your own pen as we cannot have multi contact with any items. Please fill out with baptism certificate photocopy attached and be sure to include an email address written clearly please as we will be sending out many emails throughout the year. Please attach a cheque made out TO Precious Blood Parish or there are envelopes for cash payments.

Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. Our entire faith team has a lot of time in meetings and conversations on how to bring the faith to the children and one thing was very clear…WE LOVE OUR FAITH and we want to share it with the children.

May God bless of your families and I look forward to our information meetings and to the start of our PREP program

Yours in Christ
