Readers provide a service for our priest, our parish, and our God. We prepare for and proclaim the Word of God at all Sunday and special Masses.

Our readers are of an appropriate maturity, at least high school age, so that they are competent to fully understand and to fully convey the word of God to the parishioners. On special occasions, elementary age children may read, accompanied by an adult.

Precious Blood Parish expects that readers commit to this service for at least one full year. Training is provided, especially prior to the major Liturgies of Holy Week.

Liturgy of the Word for Children

LWC is offered during Sunday 11 am Mass throughout the school year. This is for children between the ages of 3 and 6 (or completion of Grade 1). A catechist gathers the children after the opening prayer during Mass and walks over to the Parish Centre to lead the children in the Liturgy of the Word in an age appropriate manner. Readings are the same as during Mass, perhaps in simpler terms. The children then have time to participate, with the catechist, in a question and answer format homily. The children are then led back to the church and rejoin their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. New volunteers as catechists or assistants are always welcome.
